Mossel Bay boasts a near continuous coastline, with many amazing swimming spots and beaches. Here are some of our favourites:

De Bakke Santos Resort Beaches
De Bakke Santos Resort Beaches

A fantastic beach is never far away! De Bakke Santos Resort offers accommodation virtually on the beach. Camping sites look out onto Santos Beach and it only takes a minute to feel the sand between your toes. Santos is a popular holiday destination for the family, as it offers the perfect opportunity for parents to relax and children to play. The beach is safe, with vigilant lifeguards on duty during the summer holidays. The swimming area in the bay is big and spacious but cordoned off with nets to ensure the safety of everyone. With ice cream vans and chipsticks to be found in the parking lot, there is little else needed for an entire day spent on the beach. The self-catering cottages of De Bakke have their own private beach for ease of access.

The Point Swimming and Tidal Pools
The Point Swimming and Tidal Pools

The Point Swimming and Tidal Pools offer both relaxation and excitement. There is a safe tidal swimming pool with a little beach and a playground next door, perfect for families with young children. And for those looking to get their hearts racing, the tidal pools under St. Blaize lighthouse are the go-to spot! Deep enough to dive into, except at low tide, and perfect for feeling the power of the ocean (in a safe situation!), the tidal pools are a much-loved spot for locals and visitors alike. While at the Point, why not try one of the many restaurants, visit the cosy St. Blaize cave that was once a home to indigenous peoples, or hike the St. Blaize hiking trail along the cliffs that end in Dana Bay.

Diaz Beach

Another popular spot is Diaz Beach. During the summer months the long stretch of sand is packed! It’s not only popular for its beach but rather a bunch of fun activities for the whole family. The Diaz Water Park is an adventure-filled expedition, with water slides and rides keeping the whole family entertained. There are also often market stalls and vendors selling snacks, trinkets, gifts, or services like hair braiding and henna tattoos.

Hartenbos

A quick 15-minute drive from De Bakke Santos Resort, you can find Hartenbos, a lovely coastal day trip. Swim in the sea or take pictures at Hartenbos lagoon. The Hartenbos Waterpark is another favourite spot for young people, with the warm water baths being up parents’ alley. Shop and eat at the Hartenbos Waterfront or visit one of the many small shops and market stalls in the area.

De Bakke Santos is the perfect spot for any and all beachgoers! Be on the beach in one minute or take a drive and experience the various fun-filled sandy spots in and around Mossel Bay. If you would like any recommendations, our friendly staff at reception are always happy to assist!
